Ballycotton pier and harbour is just 3 miles from where I live. Behind the pier are two islands, the taller one has a lighthouse which is the bright red light in the painting. The bright lights illuminating the pier were a satisfying contrast with the deep indigo of the sky. Indeed this is my favourite colour to depict a sky.
I had done a similar painting and given it as a gift. My first exhibition was a few weeks away so I did another one for it. This one turned out a bit neater.
A gift for a friend of mine. I used artistic licence on the colours in the sky and water; the reds and oranges are much more vivid than reality.
It was an incredibly windy day. There were two kite-surfers braving the conditions down in Garryvoe beach. They were racing along such was the strength of the wind. Sold. The buyer said I caught the eastern sky when it’s dull and windy accurately.
Challenging painting. Using my thin rigger brush, painted each sunlit sparkle on the water. This painting got a very favourable response in my first exhibition in 2011. Sold.

Painted from my mind’s eye in February, 2005. After college I worked in archaeological digs around the country. But not continuously; there were stretches where I wasn’t working and helping out at home because my mother suffers from Rheumatoid Arthritis. This was painted during one of those times. I had lost touch with a lot of the people I worked with and went to school with. So I wanted to do a simple, symbolic picture representing my situation.
