Two Purple Hyacinths In A Glass Jar – Sold

I want to go in a new direction with my art, away from photorealism.
A Constellation of Dahlias

Decided to use a dark background, because the star shapes of the dahlia flowers are reminiscent of stars and so the overall piece is like a constellation in the night sky.
Buttercups In A Field In Rathhaha – Sold

Painted on 3rd and 4th June, 2013
Size: 11.3 inches x 8.7 inches
Oils on Acrylic Painting Paper
In late May and early June, the buttercups come out in their full yellow glory. I was looking for a field which wasn’t mown for silage and had plenty of these wild flowers. I found one not too far from home. We’re having great fine weather and I’m trying to get the most out of it by painting outdoors every day.
Two Six-Spot Burnet Moths on Ragwort Flowers – Sold

These moths and flowers were right on the edge of a beach not far from where I live.
Roses – Sold

Since I started using oils in January 2012, a lot of my pictures had quite muted colour schemes, especially the last two I did. So in this one I used a variety of bright colours on the roses. The central pale rose had to have very pure mixes; the slightest amount of impurity and the colour would be a faded grey mud. Overall this was a very challenging and absorbing painting.
Red Lupins in Fota Gardens

Now this was intense work! All fine detail from one side of the board to the other. A week into it, I had to do another painting because I knew I was in for a long haul and had to do something else to have a sense of completing something. I think it was worth it though.
Foxglove – Sold

Comes out in full bloom in the middle of June. Grows in hedges in Ireland. Sold.
