Kilcredan Ruined Church and Graveyard

This place is about two miles from home. When I was small I’d pass it everyday heading to and from primary school. Some of my father’s mother’s ancestors are buried here. The church is an old 17th century Protestant church. This is the third painting of a graveyard I’ve done. Snow is a rare thing where I live so it’s featured in only a handful of my paintings. I had trouble doing the tree over on the far left and the walls of the church, they slowed me down a lot. Once I was on the bottom third of the painting I raced through it. The light coloured shadows of dirty purple and light blue were satisfying to paint.
View Of Ballycotton From A Barley Field Near Ballynamona Beach – Sold

Painted outside in the open air in fine weather. This field is next to Ballynamona Beach. I liked using Sap Green in the places where green is. For years I’ve been mixing yellow and blue to get green. I didn’t put on sun cream on the third day and my right arm got an unmerciful burning!
Inchiquin Castle – Sold

Painted out in the open air. This castle is based on the donjon type. It was built by the Anglo-Normans in the early 1200s as part of their drive to consolidate their power in the region. The Anglo-Normans had invaded Ireland in 1169 on the invitation of the King of Leinster. They quickly overrun two-thirds of the island. I painted this amongst the long marsh grasses next to the bank of the Womanagh river in glorious Summer weather.
View from Carewswood Looking Southeast – Sold

Painted from life. I parked my car in the garden car park and painted the view out the front passenger window. There was continuous fine weather in the first week of June that allowed me to do this.
Ballycotton Island on an April Evening – Sold

This is the island as seen from my house looking south. I have to thank my sister who alerted me to the unusual light on the buildings that evening. Sold.
View of Ballinwilling Strand Looking East – Sold

This was painted in early Spring, 2012 and to keep out of the cold air, I would sit in the front passenger seat of my car and paint what I saw outside the windscreen. This is a nice, quiet beach about a mile east of Garryvoe beach.
Kite Surfer in Garryvoe, November 2011

The weather conditions were special this day because usually when the surfers are around it’s dull and cloudy but this was a rare day; windy and sunny.
Winter Sunset Seascape at Ballycotton Cliffs

I had painted a few small sunset paintings and felt ready to do a much larger canvas when I did this. The sea took a lot of time and patience. Painted from 8th September to 18th October, 2011.
View of Ballycotton at Sunset – Sold

I had done a similar painting and given it as a gift. My first exhibition was a few weeks away so I did another one for it. This one turned out a bit neater.
