I enjoyed doing this, I launched a few paper lanterns at the start of Spring, 2011. They’re wonderful the way they float off into the night sky. Another exploration of types of light. Sold.

The wonderful cherry blossom comes out in spectacular glory in the middle of April. This is my tribute to it. There’s a row of these trees next to the Owenacurra river in the town nearest to me, Midleton.

I chose a jade shade of green for the background, it was a good contrast to the orange in the wings. Sold

Painted on a small board 8 inches x 6 inches. I enjoyed painting the flames. I like exploring different kinds of light.

This is the fourth painting of the same view, so I’ve all four seasons covered. Springs in previous years had harsh weather, so in 2011 with a pleasant April, my opportunity came.

A gift for a friend of mine. I used artistic licence on the colours in the sky and water; the reds and oranges are much more vivid than reality.

My tribute to Carravaggio. I really enjoyed doing this. Prior to doing it, I was sick of doing pretty landscape scenes and wanted to do something darker and more violent.

Ever notice the eastern sky at a sunset? Sometimes you get lovely purples and blues in the sky especially during the winter. This painting records such a day and also the moon was rising at the same time, so you get a ‘Moonrise at Sunset’. Sold

Came about totally by accident; walking in a public garden with my sister in early January, 2011 and came across this foliage, partially frost covered. I find spontaneity very important to art, as it keeps the process fresh and interesting. This is one of my personal favourites.

The idea for this was in my mind for a few months before I executed it. I wanted to do a view looking up at a building with it illuminated at night and the rain pouring around it. This church is on a height in a village, 3 miles from where I live. I wanted to do something different and memorable. I worked off a reference photo taken two days after Christmas, 2010.
