Autumnal Briar Leaves 5

Fifth painting of this subject. Had difficulty with the yellow parts, had to do a few layers to get the correct look. A lot of hard work.
El Sol

I’ve a fair few paintings of suns, so I put the title in Spanish for this one. Down on Garryvoe Beach, tide way out, and the setting sun over Ardnahinch, casting its long rays over the rock banks.
Semi-Frozen Summer Berries

There was a half eaten carton of summer berries in the freezer a few weeks ago. I took it out and it began rapidly thawing out. This painting shows the berries in a transitional state between being frozen and thawed out. I loved the variety of colours and how unique this piece is.
Mam In Red

Painted in red tones. All these recent portraits were practice for a tv series art competition for doing a portrait. I did well on the day and even though I didn’t win, I was happy with the gameplan I had going into it and how the finished painting turned out.
A Self-Portrait In Red

Painted in nearly 5 hours. I wanted a change of scene compared to recent portraits and I enjoyed doing this.
Midleton Library Building: A Study in Red – Sold

Took some time to get into this, I had to translate not just from a reference photo to canvas, but also make up a colour scheme using red in every mix. Challenging but worth it! Sold.
