Wanted a big change of subject here. It’s important to do stuff that appeals to you alone now and again, and not constantly pandering to what the market would like.

Twilit August Evening Over The Strand Field – Sold
The field outside where I live. Barley is growing.
Autumnal Briar Leaves 3 – Sold
This is the third painting I’ve done on this subject. The background is actually dark green rather than black. These briar leaves were the first ones I found when I was walking in Rostellan Wood, which is the same place that I sourced the briar leaves used in the first two paintings.
Dazzling Sun, Shadowy Hawthorn
I had painted direct sunlight a few times before but I wanted something more impressive and eye-catching. I like the composition of the sun and it’s rays balanced on the other side by the dark hawthorn and its branches. And the clouds and long grasses picking up on the light in between.
Semi-Frozen Summer Berries
There was a half eaten carton of summer berries in the freezer a few weeks ago. I took it out and it began rapidly thawing out. This painting shows the berries in a transitional state between being frozen and thawed out. I loved the variety of colours and how unique this piece is.
Garryvoe Beach, July 2013 – Sold
Painted from life. I was sitting on the scorching hot sand for two hours painting this. A heatwave was in full force.
Emer In Blue
Painted in four hours, trying out blue as a base colour mix.
A Self-Portrait In Red
Painted in nearly 5 hours. I wanted a change of scene compared to recent portraits and I enjoyed doing this.

Midsummer Twilight
Painted over a few nights from life using a headlight mounted on my forehead. It was an amazing experience to paint out in the night air, so still and memorable. I’m moving away from using photographs as references.
